The Catskill Center is hosting a fundraising gala at the Catskill Interpretive Center in Mount Tremper on Saturday, October 9th from 5pm to 8pm. Find tickets here.
The Catskill Center promises an evening of delicious local cuisine, libations and musical performance by Spirit of Thunderheart, five native American drummers, Donna Coane, Debbie Fichtner, Brenda Martin, JoJo Griffin and Wynona Decker. Spirit of Thunderheart are awardees of the 2014 Native American Music Awards’ Best Traditional, 1st place and the 2015 Best Group of the Year, 2nd place. There will also be music by Skye, which is Celtic cellist Abby Newton, guitarist Lynn Hrdy, and keyboardist Selma Kaplan.
Catering will be provided by Mary’s Cookin’ Again. Drinks will be served from Eminence Road Farm Winery, Catskill Brewery, Awestruck Cider and Kymar Farm Distillery.
Since 1969, the Catskill Center, a non-profit based in Arkville, New York, has been protecting and fostering the environmental, cultural and economic well-being of the Catskills region. Its programs include working on ways to eradicate invasive species like the emerald ash borer that is currently munching through Catskills ash trees at an alarming rate; stream preservation; the Maurice D Hinchey Catskill Interpretive Center, named after the New York Congressman, that is a welcome center for visitors to the Catskills; the operation of a land trust, holding 17 conservation easements comprised of 43 individual parcels totaling 2,550 acres. The center also owns and maintains four properties comprised of 9 individual parcels for a total of 367 acres including the Thorn Preserve and Platte Cove Preserve, both of which are open to members and the public year round.
