Halloween is a treasured time at the end of summer, a time where we all get together after having been out of touch for so long, after a hectic high season in the tourist industry that sustains the Catskills. Take a ride up Route 28 and join us for these events during the forthcoming week. The Upstate Dispatch Halloween weekend will include the following:
UPDATE: An earlier version of this post included Friday night drinks at the Phoenicia Diner Lounge, but the Lounge has closed for the season. This will make the long wait for Spring even more arduous. It’s a good thing that Mike Cioffi, owner of the Phoenica Diner is working on a new bar after buying property in Woodstock. Meanwhile, we are working on a list of great bars in the vicinity of the Lounge in a new post. Watch this space for a link to the list of places to drink on Friday night. Of course, there is also our beloved Peekamoose as detailed below. Friday night drinks at Peekamoose Tap Room are everyone’s favorite way to decompress after a hard week. The bar and restaurant is further up past Phoenicia by about ten minutes on Route 28 in the town of Big Indian.
Saturday Day, October 31st: Twin Mountain Hike
Give the dog his essential romp in the woods and check one of the Catskills’ stunning peaks over 3500ft off your list. The Catskill Mountain Club is organizing a hike up this peak with breathtaking views. It’s a 5.2-mile loop and well worth it to view the waning fall from such glorious heights. This is a trail that does not finish where it starts, so cars will be parked in two locations. Pre-register by sending an email to [email protected] by Thursday October 29, 2015.
Saturday Night, October 31st: Halloween Costume Party at Peekamoose 8pm
From 8pm to 12am, Peekamoose Restaurant is hosting an All Hallows’ Eve bash to include a DJ, dancing, vittles, cash bar, tarot card reading, photobooth and prizes. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Peekamoose is one of our favourite places in the Catskills, some of the best dining ever experienced and the best cocktail shaker of all time, Deanna.
Sunday Day, November 1st: Blue Barn Antiques
Dig around in the expansive Blue Barn in Shandaken for some reasonably priced contemporary items, antiques and quirky one-off originals in a cozy, quaint country atmosphere. Love this place and could spend all day here. Shop for exquisite holiday gifts for all members of the family.
If you’re here on Thursday night, don’t miss this:
